Being a dickhead or a hipster is the trendy fade of 2009~2010, but that sort of lameness would have never made it in 1987.

Amazing things happen when you set out to change the world, and on my own quest I bumped into Jesse Von Doom, the founder of CASH Music. CASH Music is the most exciting open source foundation I see today. Simply put, it’s a full set of web software: musicians’ tools to support their art on the Internet. We have 63 artists using CASH Music software hosted on our servers. Hundreds more, from upstarts to Joe Satriani, have downloaded open-source code from CASH and are using it on their own sites. Several artists have been able sell a good amount of product directly to fans using CASH Music’s E-commerce tools. Yes, we are really changing the world, little by little.

So I have volunteered at Jesse’s foundation to help guide product development and business activities. This is why you’re getting this email today. This Fall we are running our fund raising sprint. We want to grow our endowment so we can support three part-time engineers, one marketing manager and office activities.

If you love music and the artists behind the music then this a perfect foundation to support by donating money. Musicians have been under enormous stress due the massive business model shift from selling music to free music. By supporting CASH Music you will be directly supporting the code that helps musicians build web experiences to aid them in a real-world sustainable business online.

Thanks in advance for your support.

I just got an email from an old BUZZmedia co-worker letting me know that the company I  founded back in 2004 finally made a list that states we are valuable. Of course I knew this back when my Amex card was the chief funder of my media venture.

Today I am very happy to read this and I am sure my investors are too. Yes we have built an amazing media company and pop culture is very swift moving market. It has been fun, but mostly I have to thank everyone that has put in all the hard work at BUZZmedia. Good job. Perhaps next year we move from the buttom of the list to the middle. It is really great to be on the same list as Twitter and Craigslist.

Cashmusic folks having been engineering  the technical architecture for what Amanda Palmer most eloquently discusses in this video.  What an inspiring, optimistic, creative and passionate  position to promote to her fellow musicians.    She is totally correct, it is a time for celebration.  We also believe it is going to be much better when artists rely directly on their audience for support. Putting a middle person in between your work and audience is an incredible old idea that doesn’t scale with social webs capabilities. Take advantage of the Interwebs and be happy.  Find out more Amanda Palmer and Cash Music Open Source Foundation
